POSITION SUMMARY
The Grandview Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for Seasonal Park Maintenance Workers. This positions will perform a variety of semi-skilled jobs in ground maintenance, gardening, horticulture and related work. This position will be used to cover weekend shifts for posting on shelter houses and routine maintenance within the parks.
The position will work a 40-hour week and will be required to work holidays, weekends and special events during the summer. Exception to the hours will be made for students who can only work weekends and then full time after school is closed for summer. These positions may start work as early as 6:00 a.m. (5:00 a.m. on days hosting baseball tournaments) and end as late as 8 p.m. in order to complete the tasks for the day. Shifts will be no shorter than 4 hours, and are typically 8 hours. Candidates are expected to be available to work for the entire summer season. Reports to the Assistant Parks Manager
Job Responsibilities (Include, but not limited to)
· Mows grass, trims shrubs and trees
· Picks up litter and garbage
· Cleans buildings and facilities, restrooms, landscape areas, playground equipment, bleachers, picnic tables and shade structures, and shelters
· Watering and weeding flower beds
· Participates in the upkeep of public parks, parkways, buildings, grounds and other landscaped areas
· Cleans and maintains tools and equipment used on the job
· Observes safety rules
· Performs routine manual labor
· Dragging, lining, setting bases and other athletic field work
· Inspect, maintain, and repair park facilities as needed
· Post shelter house rentals
· All other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
No specific training or experience is needed to qualify for this level. Must be at least 17 years of age (experience in grounds/park maintenance is a plus); have a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Must have the ability to follow directions, learn quickly and be a self-starter. Possess the ability to work with other co-workers and the public is required. Pay
Starting at $16.00 per hour.
Physical Demands
Work is performed primarily outside with exposure to extreme temperatures. Employee may be exposed to varying noise levels in the environment such as noise from recreational programs, noise from operating vehicles, equipment and/or tools. Heavy work requires the employee to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally or up to 50 pounds frequently. Physical demand requirements include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping and feeling. Employee must have visual acuity to perform frequent reading, be able to utilize measuring devices and ability to distinguish color and depth vision. Employee must use hands for tools, machinery and for writing or typing. Employee must hear and talk with others, either in person or on the phone, to communicate information and ideas. Work requires communication with coworkers, and interacting with the public
